Welcome to Ridgewaye U8's
5th November 2011.
5th November 2011.
This is the match report for Ridgewaye U8s against Paddock Wood.
Ridgewaye Rockets had a tough first match with some excellent goal
keeping from Paddock Wood denying them a major win.
Simba opened up the scoring with team mates shots being saved left
right and centre with some excellent passing from Ridgewaye.
Try after try they attacked but to no avail and Paddock Wood broke
after a hard attack and equalised ending the game 1 -1.
Ridgewaye Galaxy attacked similiar to the Rockets but were caught
twice on the break and punished twice leaving Paddock Wood with a 2 - 0
lead. Trisdon, Heny and Caleb pushed to score but were thwarted every
time. Zach had a one on one with the goal keeper but put the ball wide
of the post ending the game 2 - 0.
Ridgewaye Rockets went on a rampage in the second match scoring 3 -
0. Two superb strikes from Simba made the game 2 - 0 and quite safe with
William Connelly scoring the third making it 3 -0. Ridgewaye Rockets
pushed hard to create Simba's first hat-trick of the season, but with
more excellent goal keeping was denied.
Ridgewaye Galaxy came out of the starting blocks hard. the passing
was pressise and crisp and showed no greediness at all with pass after
pass.
Paddock Wood broke and scored. With heads down Paddock Wood pushed
forward and attacked Ridgewaye hard, but with some exelent defending from
James and Alex, and great keeping from Ben ,Ridgewaye held them to the
second half.
It was getting close to the end when Zach passed to Henry down the
line who passed into the middle to Trisdon. Trisdon saw the goalie off
the line and went for a lob. all parent, Coaches and players held their
breath as the ball seemed to hang in the air before bouncing into goal
making it 1 - 1
After that Ridgewaye started opening up Paddock wood with some great
passing. Alex fired a pass to Henry who slotted it through to Caleb who
took a shot and slammed it into the corner winning the game for
Ridgewaye Galaxy two matches on the trot

Ridgeway played Langton Green and were out paced by a fast passing team.
Ridgeway Galaxy held them well for most of the game but went down 1 -0 at half time. they played well but after a hand ball near the end finished it off with a penalty and lost 2 - 0
Their second game started the same and they went down by a goal early but fought back and equalised in the second half. Langton Green pressured well and scored in the last five minutes. Ridgeway had a last few minutes flurry and pressed hard to equalise but ran out of time before they could and the match finished 2- 1.
Ridgay Rockets had a harder time and were nplayed off the park losing their first match 3 - 0.
Tiredness set in the second match and Langton Green powered 3 goals in with The rockets struggling to keep up who scored a conselation goal making the final score 3- 1

They grew on there second match and delivered a striking blow to Jarvis Brook and beat them, convincingly, 4 - 0.
All parents behaved well and congratulate each other at the end.
Just like to say a great thankyou to Stewart for the intense training that has turned the team around and hopefully go onto winning a lot more with the excellent presence of the parents who are extremely involved in helping our teams excel

Short Summary of Last Season:
With 24 boys registered, it looked like another bumper year for the new 'competitive' intake to Ridgewaye FC. As the new coaches on the block, having the FA Level 1 training was certainly beneficial in terms of putting plans together however with little guidance beyond this, it's certainly been a trial by fire in terms of working out how best to coral parents to help (still not found the perfect answer), make sure pitches are available (finally sorted) and, most importantly, trying to fairly share the workload out of managing and running the team (still yet to find a solution that works).
We started the season with a group of boys who thought that the best way to start any match was to have everyone group on the centre circle but this has now developed into one that now, at least, understands that spreading out can be helpful. All the boys have shown progression but clearly there are a number of clubs with a much greater level of training at an earlier age that we've managed since we've encountered a number of opponents who's playing style is more akin to Arsenal's first team than bees swarming around a honey pot! It's great to see progression being made but clearly we still have some way to go. Despite this, the boys enjoy both training and matches and are raring to go to tournaments and get involved and it's important to keep in perspective that the boys enjoyment is the key goal of what we are doing at this age level.
